I get so many enquiries a day for in‑person Afrikaans tutoring that I sometimes wonder if I should open a drive‑through lesson window.

I completely respect that choice. Parents know their children best, and I do not question it. Luckily, I have a good in‑person tutor company I can refer all those families to. Lucky them… and lucky me, because this prevents my calendar from exploding. 😅 😅

For families who prefer convenience, I offer online Afrikaans tutoring for learners in South Africa, Cape Town and beyond.

I teach Afrikaans as a First Additional Language, also known as Afrikaans FAL, to learners from Grade 1 to Grade 12. Online lessons are friendly, structured and adapted to each learner’s age, school requirements and confidence level.

I can proudly say and yes, allow myself a tiny brag, because last term, all my students improved their marks. (My ego is now officially bilingual.)

Is online Afrikaans tutoring suitable for young children?

My youngest student is 7. At first I doubted whether such a small child could concentrate on a screen. I keep his lessons short. I make colourful posters for him and we paly games. He gets so excited when he learns new words that he literally jumps up to show his mum. If that is not motivation, I do not know what is.

Most kids are shy in the beginning, but they quickly get used to it. Many of them love the idea of “borrowing” their parents’ laptops for “school”. (Some even log in from the kitchen table in full pyjamas. Yes, that really happens. I had Grade 10 grammar lessons with a student wearing dinosaur pajamas and a blanket cape. Fashion-forward and fluent in Afrikaans.

The benefits for me and for families are real:

1. It is safe and convenient.

2. It saves time (no traffic, no running late).

3. It cuts travel costs for everyone.

4. Kids pick up new computer skills along the way.

5. Older learners love the confidence of being in their own space

6. It makes scheduling easier. Online lessons can fit more easily around school and family commitments.

7. It allows families outside my immediate area to get support. Learners in Cape Town, other parts of South Africa and international locations can enquire about online lessons.

Let us be honest: if I were still driving to students, renting an office or trying to make a business work with endless travel time, I simply wouldn’t be able to tutor for a living.

The business would make no profit and I would spend more time in my car than teaching.

If you are still unsure about online Afrikaans tutoring, why not book a free introduction lesson?

You have nothing to lose and possibly a few marks (and pyjama-friendly lessons) to gain.
